Abstract (EN)
In this study, ?Life Safety? performance requirement of existing 8 story building located in Istanbul was investigated according to the life safety requirements specified by TSDC?07 Part-7 for residential buildings. Investigated structure was designed according to the Turkish Seismic Design Code (ABYYHY?75) which was published in 1975. The building was built in 1988.Three dimensional models were developed by using SAP2000 structural analysis program. Vertical load analysis was calculated for G+0,3Q loading. Earthquake forces were calculated by using ?Equivalent Earthquake Load Method? procedure.Bending moment capacity of each member of structural system was calculated by taking the material characteristics of existing structures into account. Then damage level of each member was determined considering calculated capacities and effect earthquake loads by using Excel?s sheets.Consequently, it is shown that the structure can not satisfy the life safety performance level requirements.
