Özet (EN)

Objective: It is aimed to determine the type and level of hearing loss of the infants who were further examined for being failed Newborn Hearing Screening (NHS) in our clinic between the years 2010 and 2015 and to compare lingual development and chronological age of the infants who brought under auditory rehabilitation. Material and Method: Ten thousand five hundred babies had NHS performed at our clinic between the years 2010 and 2015. The failed 198 babies from the NHS test were recalled to control for further audiologic evaluation. The 113 infants brought to the control were included in the study. The risk factors and test results of the babies in the study were reached by reviewing the NHS registry and patient report. The knowledge about the language development of infants who use hearing aids and who are regularly introduced to the family education program has been found by Denver II Developmental Test or Preschool Language Scale, Fourth Edition (PLS-4) Results: One hundred thirteen of 198 babies that are recalled to control for further audiological evaluation were included in the appointment. Of the babies evaluated in the study, 65 were male and 48 were female. Mean age of newborn hearing screening has been determined as 40.50 ± 42.34 days (minimum 2 days, maximum 183 days, median 30 days). Mean age of hearing loss diagnosis has been determined as 115.25 ± 54.71 days (minimum 16 days, maximum 253 days). According to the results of diagnostic tests, 41 babies had congenital hearing loss (0,3%). Auditory amplification was recommended to 17 of the babies with hearing loss. Mean age of the proposed hearing aids (HAs) has been determined as 128.94 ± 75.76 days. Eight of the 17 recommended HAs with amplification were regularly introduced to the family education program. These eight babies' language development situations were compared with chronological ages. One baby's language development was advanced from as his age, one baby's language development was the same as his age. The six babies' language development was back from their peers. The most common hearing loss risk factors in the study were premature birth, hyperbilirubinemia, stay in the neonatal intensive care unit and oxygen deprivation (asphyxia) during labor. Conclusion: It was seen that there were infants in the study who were not brought to the diagnostic test and family education program. Fourty one infants had congenital hearing loss, 32 infants had conductive hearing loss related to effusion. Language development of six of the eight infants who brought regularly to family education was back from their peers. Key Words: Newborn, Newborn Hearing Screening, Hearing Loss
