Abstract (EN)
1.Introduction and Objective: Traffic accidents are important causes of morbidity and mortality in our country likewise worldwide. When traffic accidents occur most frequently, age ranges, types of accidents and injuries, it is seen that there are important statistics to help reduce accidents. The aim of our study; Gaining awareness about morbidity levels of traffic accidents by examining forensic medical cases who applied to KTU Institute of Forensic Sciences between 2016-2019 in terms of forensic medical support, to consider in terms of age, gender, type of accident, type of injury, mechanical support used after accident, disability / disability rates and caregiver need. 2. Material and Method: The structure of the study is a cross-sectional descriptive study and it was done by retrospectively examining the files and the forensic committee reports of the cases who applied to KTU Institute of Forensic Sciences between 2016-2019 after the accident. 3. Results: When the gender of the patients who needed mechanical support after a traffic accident was examined, 58% (n34) were male and 42% (n25) were female. 29% of the accidents occurred extravehicular and 71% in the vehicle. When bone fractures occurred during the accident , tibia-fibula with 33%, femur with 20% and pelvis with 14% were seen. 18 months after the accident, 17% (n: 10) of the patients had bilateral crutches, 17% (n: 10) of the wheelchairs and 66% (n: 39) had unilateral crutches. 4. Conclusion: Traffic accidents, which are one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality, are seen in the most productive age range of life, causing large labor losses and causing great damage to the national economy. In order to minimize the loss in traffic accidents, national struggle programs should be developed, social sensitivity should be increased, necessary trainings and inspections should be done regularly and technical opportunities to prevent accidents should be improved.
