Özet (EN)

This research within the master thesis of graphic design department contains theatre play posters which have been the most common form of graphic arts and an element of cultural posters. It debates if the posters still maintain their function as a communication tool, to measure whether they still have any influence on audience through designer/director/spectator relationship and in this context, the result within graphic design literature. Its aim to suggest a solution through the indications obtained within the research for the engagement problems between the poster and the viewer that has been observed by the researcher for almost seven years. To achieve this, the foundation of the paper has been created with the questions such as; "How good a theatre poster functions as a communication tool nowadays?", "How is the interaction between the poster and the spectator?", "What are the expectations of the director from the poster designer and the poster design?", "What is the designer's approach?", "How is the relationship between the director and the designer?", "How good a poster becomes a tool when it is met the expectations of the both the designer and the director?". Three plays have been selected and based on these questions the directors and the designers were semi structured interviewed and the viewer were filled out a survey. As a result, the significance of designing qualified posters has been emphasised, however before that, the essential problem has revealed itself as the interaction between the poster and the audience. In this sense, to achive the advancement of spectator-poster relationship and the ideal process of interaction highlighted in the following chapters, several proposals have been made. The research presents the position and the usage of a poster in latest channels, its recent function and its relation with viewer, and becomes a notable source of process. Additionally, within the master thesis project 20 posters, 15 printed and 5 animated, have been designed in the line of qualifications that have been emphasized throughout the paper.
