Investigation of 2018 social studies course teaching programs in terms of children's rights

The main purpose of this research is to inform children about their rights, to provide them with the skills to understand and defend these rights, and also to create respect and sensitivity to children's rights at the social level. Thus, children who will be the adults of the future will be able to grow up as individuals who are conscious of children's rights. Children's rights education aims to empower children about their own rights. In this way, children's ability to express their own opinions, defend their decisions and contribute to changes in their environment will increase. Children's rights education aims to raise individuals who will contribute to social change. Conscious children can play active roles in creating a society that respects children's rights. Education provides children with information about combating discrimination. Children who are informed about their own rights have a say about their own rights and changes in their environment by participating in democratic processes. Children who are aware of their rights contribute to the creation of a more fair environment among themselves and in society. In this context, the 2018 Social Studies Course 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Grade Curriculum, which is being implemented in our country in the 2023-2024 academic year, was examined and detailed analysis was made regarding children's rights. As a result of the examinations, it was concluded that the 2018 Social Studies Course curriculum should be updated regarding children's rights.
