Abstract (EN)
Migration; the need to get away from war, hunger and bad conditions, is a situation every community has lived throughout history propmting people to flee their homelands. In Syria and after the civil war which started in 2011, Turkey was the most affected country by this wave of migration, as Syria directly borders our country. In our study, all Syrian refugee forensic cases sent to Gaziantep University Forensic Medicine Department and Forensic Toxicology laboratory in 2021 were respectively analyzed and the issued forensic reports were examined. In the scope of our study 74.6% of the evaluated forensic cases were men. While examining the most common reason for admission it was determined that among all applications drug use was the most common cause for admission with a percentage of 60.2%, and the second most common cause for admission was age determination. And it was found that men were predominantly admitted for drug use, while women were primarily admitted for age determination. When the age distribution of individuals using drugs was evaluated, it has been determined that the teenagers and young adults population between the ages of 20-40 came to the fore. And among the evaluated cases the most frequently detected substance was found to belong to the amphetamine groups with a rate of 68%. When the reasons for sending age determination cases to our Department were examined, it was found that the most frequent cause was early marriage with a rate of 95.4% The high prevalence of drug use cases among refugees and the abundance of amphetamines and its derivatives in these cases pose various risks in our country where refugees are densely populated. And we believe that preventive actions should be carried out such as identifying the places where refugees are procuring drugs. In addition; despite the fact that more than 10 years have passed since the war, it has been revealed that among the applications admitted for age determination, child marriages which is a crime in our country's laws, is continusly perpetuated by refugees. More educational and deterrent measures need to be used to ensure compliance with the law during refugees stay in our country
