Abstract (EN)
The distinction in the understanding and definitions of genius, talent and talented individuals between the past and present is noteworthy. Within the scope of this thesis, the evolution of these definitions, their contemporary significance, and their relationship with mainstream cinema have been examined. The reflections, transformations, and presentations of the concept to the audience have been analyzed through example films. In the first chapter, the definition of this concept, habitual usages, the individuals to whom it is attributed, and the approaches regarding why they are considered talented have been conveyed through literature reviews. The second chapter explores the impact of cinema on social consciousness and perception, considering the perspectives of thinkers on cinema. The chapter aims to contextualize the rapid distribution and access speeds gained by cinema through new media platforms, as well as interaction figures. In the third chapter, eight films were selected based on target audience, viewership, and re-watch numbers. These films were analyzed through cinematographic narratives, scene breakdowns, subtext readings, and the transformation of the understanding and definition of talent. The analyses predominantly utilized the formal analysis method, complemented by thematic and sociological analysis methods, ensuring a more in-depth examination. Elements such as scene composition, framing, lighting preferences, and character constructions were scrutinized. The analyses revealed that the perception of talent in mainstream cinema has undergone certain transformations, reflecting an image of talent as something rationalized, measurable, and attainable.
