An interactive sound installation experiment based on the sound art thought of the 21st century

The aim of this study is to describe the creation space of 21st century sound art theoretically and thus to design an interactive sound installation. Therefore, in the first phase of the study, the evolution of the sound-art throughout history was explained and a theoretical framework was established to reveal how sound became an artistic practice until the 21st century. In addition, design and installation practices of 21st century sound art were explored. In the last part of the theoretical framework, a survey about the institutions providing education in this field in Turkey was conducted and a review of the existing literature in this field was presented. In the second part of the study, it is investigated which art movements are related to the sonic arts and whether this interaction has an effect on the practices in sonic arts. The effects of this interaction on the practices in today's sonic arts are interpreted. Besides, a research has been carried out for software that can be used in the design of an interactive sound installation. In consideration of the design which made within the scope of this study, the opportunities provided by using open source software, the facilities offered by the music technology and the findings of the 21st century sound art practices have been investigated. In the last part of the study, an interactive sound installation was designed in the light of the findings obtained and placed in a proper location and information about the design of this installation was provided.
