Abstract (EN)
This study, which aims to analyze and evaluate the social, economic and legal structure of Gaziantep (Ayntab), one of the Ottoman provincial cities, in the mid-17th century, focuses on pages 140-279 of Gaziantep Şer'iyye Registers No. 28. During the study, the documents in the register were transcribed and a comprehensive assessment was made. The subject registry includes documents such as cases concluded by the judgment of the kadi (mehr, insult, coup, etc.), records of receivables and payables, inheritance divisions, foundation transactions, guardian and proxy appointments, and orders and correspondence from the central administration. This study offers an original source for researchers working on the Ottoman law system, urban history and its continuation, the shar'iyye registers. In this context, this study aims to fill the gap in both local history studies and the academic evaluation of Ottoman archival documents.
