Abstract (EN)

News and Journalism have been ever present through the history of humankind, and have transformed and improved in accordance with changing time and conditions. Based on the sense of "curiosity" inherent in human nature, journalism has unfolded while transmitting news from its place of birth to other regions and has played an active role in creating news agencies. Advancement of technology eventually has influenced journalism and especially widespread use of Internet in recent years has affected journalism. Internet journalism has shaped in line with people's desire to reach news as soon as possible, and conventional media tools were not indifferent to enter into this new platform. However, the source of news is as important as communicating news. Technology and Internet, as phenomena enhancing their efficiency in political space as in every other space, recently have started to be used more globally and nationally. Political leaders, who previously preferred firstly conventional media in their election campaigns, considering the effectiveness of new media, later started to use it in their campaigns and had quite positive results. Technology liberating voters with technical infrastructure and applications which send instant message, resulted in both political leaders and voters to use new media extensively and effectively during electoral periods. In this context, this study elaborates on the relation of conventional media, new media tools with news agencies as sources of news during election campaign processes comparing usage rates. Research findings ,election news regarding to political parties published by Posta and Zaman newspapers during local elections dated 30 March 2014 were reviewed between 1 March – 28 March 2014 on traditional media and Facebook. According to the findings obtained regarding to traditional media, news are mostly published as images and texts in both newspapers. News about public meetings are highlighted. "Assertion/accusation" news are mostly mentioned. Main characters in the news published in both newspapers are statesmen. It is determined that both newspapers show the news about AK Party up when comparing to others. It is observed that Zaman Newspaper published more partisan news when comparing to Posta Newspaper. According to the findings from their Facebook pages, Posta Newspaper has more male followers comparing to Zaman Newspaper. Most follower user group of both newspapers are between 18-24 ages. As the 78% of Posta Newspaper followers are online during the day, this rate is 68% for Zaman newspaper. The followers of Zaman Newspaper have more interaction. Monthly interaction rate of Zaman Newspaper is almost 10 times higher than Posta Newspaper. It is determined that Zaman Newspaper gives more importance to politic news comparing to Posta Newspaper. It is concluded that the news of Zaman are followed by much more people.
