In recent years, in biomaterials science, There have been advances in materials that are compatible with human bone. The NiTi alloy has been extensively studied because of its shape memory effect and potential uses for biomedical applications. Recently, many researchers have focused their interests on porous NiTi alloy that has similar structure with human bone. As compared with and without porous NiTi alloy, the properties of porous NiTi alloy can be easily adjusted to match those of replaced bones by obtaining different porosity and pore-size through controlling the synthesis conditions. However its use is limited due to the relatively higher cost compared with the other bioadaptive materials such as 316L alloys, the difficulty in tailoring pore size and distribution thus mechanical properties. In this study, the surface for biocompatible 316L stainless steel with the SHS method will be covered with the porous NiTi alloys. How porous coating will be formed with pre-annealing temperature and interface that occur between porous NiTi alloy and 316L alloy will be examined. In the process, NiTi powder mixture will be compacted to 2-3 mm thickness on the surface of 316L stainless steel by powder metallurgy method. The samples prepared will be subjected to the pre-annealing temperature for 600 o C in an induction melting furnace under protected atmosphere, and ignited by a rapid increase of temperature in the same furnace. The interface between porous NiTi and 316L stainless steel alloy will be examined with Optical, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) Key Words: Nickel-Titanium, SHS, Powder Metallurgy, 316L Stainless Steel
