Abstract (EN)

Court records (Şer'iye Sicilleri) are one of the most important historical documents that reveal the social, economic and political structure of their period. Indeed, the documents such as the lawsuits, correspondences with the state, complaints, and appointments, etc. are a major source for learning the situation of the Ottoman Empire in the period. In terms of understanding and interpreting the history, judicial registers are of special importance for a historian. Because of this importance, many court records have been deemed worthy of study in the academic field. With our study on "Transcription and Evaluation of Manisa Court Records Numbered 48 (1030/1620)", we aimed to be a contribution and a resource to the studies carried out in this field. In this study, the neighborhoods, accidents and villages of the period, Muslim and non-Muslim names, foundations including religious places and madrasas, occupational groups and names of goods and assets belonging to the period were determined. Thus, the information and analyzes on social and economic situation in the first quarter of XVII century for Manisa are presented. Analytical evaluation of documents is aimed to be performed. We believe that this study will shed light on the events, economic, social, cultural and legal status of the period in which the case records are mainly documents of inheritance, divorce, appointment of guardian, sales and debt collection cases.
