Abstract (EN)

Synthesis and characterization of new 5-aminoisoquinoline derivatives was carried out. 5-Aminoisoquinoline derivatives were prepared for possible applications in the field of medicine and pharmacology and therapeutics. Aminoquinolines bear a quinoline core and are known to be the first classs of compounds to successfully treat malaria, with the drugs chloroquine and amodiaquine being the commonly encountered anti-malarials. Isoquinoline is a structural isomer of quinoline and has been implicated for anti-malarial activity also. In this study, the isoquinoline structure was combined with naphthalene groups to provide new aminoisoquinoline derivatives for possible drug applications. The chemical structures of the compounds synthesized were examined by Elemental Analysis, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H and 13C NMR), Liquid Chromatography Mass-Mass Spectroscopy (LC-MS-MS), Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Photoluminescence (PL) methods. Antimicrobial activity studies of the aminoisoquinoline derivatives were conducted to evaluate their anti-bacterial and anti-fungal effects, and physicochemical parameters were also examined and discussed.
