Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to develop a teaching material based on Common Knowledge Construction Model (CKCM) to the teaching of the Sun, Earth and Moon subject in 5th grade Science course in secondary school, and to examine the effect of the developed material on students' achievement. The study group consisted of 27 (11 girls, 16 boys) 5th grade students in a secondary school in Rize in the academic year 2017-2018. The quantitative dimension of the research was carried out in a single group pre-test and post-test simple experimental design, and the qualitative dimension was in phenomenological design. Quantitative data was obtained through Achievement Test, which was developed by the researcher; qualitative data was obtained through semi-structured interviews. Dependent t-test was used in the analysis of the quantitative data, descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of the qualitative data. According to findings obtained from the study, it was found that teaching based on CKCM had an effect on students' achievement of Sun, Earth and Moon. In addition, it has been observed that some students have alternative concepts at the least related to these subjects. Because of the positive effects of CKCM on achievement, it is suggested that the model can be used onsubjects that students have difficulty in understanding in science course.
