The effect of 5E Model based laboratory approach on the attitudes and successes of prospective science teachers in physics laboratory course

In this research, laboratory approach based on 5E Model?s effect and traditional verification laboratory approach?s effect that development of university students? attitude to lesson and academic success were compared in basic science laboratory.This study was caried out with 60 university students from the 1st classes of science mastership in the autumn term of the 2010 and 2011 academic year in Kastamonu University Education Faculty. Research was caried out experimental group that was composed with 30 students who are chosen randomly and the control grup that was composed with 30 students who are chosen the same way with the experimental gruop. Laboratory approach based on 5E Model was used in the experimental group in lesson presentations. Traditional verification laboratory approach was used in the control group in lesson presentations.In this research primarily, the achievement prior test was implemented to both groups to measure students? preliminary information and attitude scale prior test was implemented to determine students? attitude before implementation. At the end of the study that was continued during 8 weeks, the same achievement test and attitude scale was implemented as last test.The data that were obtained from the research were evaluated statistically with using the independent samples t test and it was taken advantage of the SPSS packaged software.At the end of the research, when the experimental group where laboratory approach based on 5E Model was implemented and the control group where traditional verification laboratory approach was implemented are compared, it was reached the conclusion that the experimental group was more successful than the control group and the experimental group developed more affirmative attitude than the control group.
