Analysis of the relationships between the self-confidence levels and parental attitude of children in grade 6th, 7th and 8th

The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between the self-confidence levels of 6th, 7th and 8th grade children and parental attitudes. It has been tried to examine whether the age and gender of the child cause a difference in parental attitudes and self-confidence levels of the child in accordance with this purpose. This research was carried out in relational scanning model in order to determine the relationship between different parental attitudes and self-confidence levels of their children. The study group of the research consists of 80 6th, 7th and 8th grade children attending secondary schools affiliated to the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education and parents of these children. "The Parent Attitudes Determination Scale" developed by Günalp (2007) and "Piers Harris Self-Concept Scale for Children" adapted by Öner (1996) developed by Piers Harris in 1964 were used as data collection tools in the research, and the analyzes were carried out by using the SPSS package program. The questions, for which answers are sought in the research, are given below. Answers were sought to the question about whether there is a relationship between the self- confidence levels of 6th, 7th and 8th grade children and parental attitudes. Also, answers were sought to the questions about the self-confidence levels of 6th, 7th and 8th grade children and the attitudes of the parents of these children. It was examined whether the parental attitudes of 6th, 7th and 8th grade children vary according to the gender and grade level of the children, and whether self-confidence of the children varies according to grade level and gender of the children. When the results obtained after the analyses are examined, it is seen that the self-confidence levels of the children are at average level, the democratic parental attitude is high, the protective parental attitude is average, respectively, and oppressive parental attitude and irrelevant-neutral parental attitude are low. When the results obtained in the research were examined, no significant correlation was found between the self-confidence total score of the children and total score of the parental attitude and the sub-dimensions of the parental attitude scale.
