The effect of the use of the multi-disciplinary arts education method in the 6th grade visual arts course cultural heritage unit on student achievement

The purpose of this research is to examine "the effect of 6th grade Visual Art Lesson Multi-Disciplinary Art Education Method about cultural heritage on student success". There is a learning field of cultural heritage in the Visual Arts Guide published by the Ministry of National Education for teachers. This learning field contains learning outcomes that aim to bring students to a state of awareness of protecting cultural heritage by introducing civilazitons that have lived in Anatolia. The research was conducted, in achieving learning outcomes of cultural heritage, to identify the effect of the multi disciplinary art method on student success. Students are aimed to get familiar with their own country's culture and the world's art, develop protection awareness, understand the nautre of art and beauty, and improve handcraft skills with the multi disciplinary art method, an educational method that includes art disciplines such as art critics developed in accordance with our country's conditions, art history, aesthetics and applications. The population of the study consists of 6th grade students of Ülkü Secondary School, under district directorate of national education Akhisar, Manisa; and the sample consists of a total of 60 students in classes 6/C and 6/D. The research application was conducted in 2018/2019 academic year. Experimental method was used in this research. Control grouped pre-test and post- test pattern was applied in the experimental method. One of the two classes selected randomly among 6th grades of the school formed the control group, and the other formed the experimental group. Experiment and control groups that form the sample group were applied the cultural heritage achievement test prepared by the researcher as pre-test and post-test. A museum visit was conducted with the experimental group and multi disciplinary art education method was applied. In the control group, the course was taught in traditional teaching methods. The research data were collected with the cultural heritage achievement test, SPSS 17.0 package program was used for data analysis. Obtained data revealed meaningful difference in the experimental group.
