Teachers's opinions about qualifications and availability of maps in textbook on social studies of the 6'th class (Example of Giresun)

Giresun University Institute of Social Sciences Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education Department of Social Studies prepared dissertation for master degree. The purpose of this study is to determine the views of teachers about the features and levels of use of maps in sixth class social textbooks. In the course of the study. As a result of research, a social science textbook was used of the Evren publications elementary sixth grade in the 2014-2015 years. Social studies teachers working in public schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education constitute the basis of the research in Giresun city center and In the central province of Giresun officers and 26 social studies teachers participated in the survey are the examples of the research. In research, a Likert-type consisting of 47 questions was conducted a survey with teachers. The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated to measure the reliability of the questions in the survey. Analysis of collected data was made with Spss 23 statistics program. As a result of the studies, it is seen that the characteristics of the maps in 6'th class textbooks are not suitable for students, qualifications, legibilities, writing and print qualities are lacking. Social science teachers argued that the maps in the books are not suitable for the student level.
