Abstract (EN)
This research tries to reveal how and which activities socio-cultural education can be done in preschool period when learning is most active, what skills children can demonstrate when learning socio-cultural issues. And it aims to provide a new perspective to the Ministry of Education Preschool Education Program (for 60-72 months children) implemented in Turkey in the light of the findings obtained as a result of activities. Research is carried out by action research method of qualitative research design inherently. In parallel with this, the study is performed in two steps as a pilot and main application in Hendek District of Sakarya Province. The pilot application is made in the spring period of 2016-2017 education term, the main application is also made in the fall and spring period of 2016-2017 education term. In the application process is used video and photo recordings, children's pictures and products, observation notes, interviews with children as data collection tools. These collected data is classified and subjected to interpretive analysis. Within the framework of socio-cultural education, under 3 themes (history-sociology, geography, interdisciplinary), 29 main and 104 sub-activities are applied. As a result of the research, it is seen that children displays result of critical thinking and its sub-steps, perception of time and chronology, perception of change and continuity, problem solving, creativity, empathy skills, and the use of imagination and media effects within the framework of history-sociology theme activities. As a result of geography theme activities, it is observed the critical thinking and its sub-steps, perception of time and chronology, locating on the map, the ability to perceive distance, and also the effect of the imagination and media. Under interdisciplinary theme activities, it is found that children exhibits the critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, empathy locating on the map and the ability to perceive distance.
