Investigation of the relationship between social skills and digital game addicti̇on in 60-72 month-old preschool children

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between digital game addiction and social skills among preschool children aged 60-72 months. The analysis results showed that digital game addiction is related to the sub-dimensions of social skills. It was found that digital game addiction and social skill scales did not show significant differences based on gender and the number of siblings. The results did however show significant differences based on the educational status of parents, their occupation and family income level. The study was conducted with 267 preschool students using a suitability sampling method. The study can be replicated with different sample sizes and students from varied educational levels. In addition, the differences between digital game addiction and the sociocultural and socioeconomic levels of the regions where preschool children with high social skills reside in, can be examined. A discourse analysis study can also be conducted to investigate the extent to which teachers' roles and statements in the classroom, in addition to parents, are effective in developing students' social skills.
