Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effectiveness of teaching the gains in the 7th Class inin Solar System and Beyond unit by means of material and model supported activities was examined. In this context, it is aimed to determine the students' attitudes towards astronomy, astronomical achievements and student views about activities. The study group of the study is composed of 7th grade students (29 people) studying in a secondary school in Akyazı district of Sakarya province. The research was carried out in the second year of the 2015-2016 academic year and the 7th grade science course on the, Solar System and Beyond unit. In the developed activities, material and model supported activities were prepared for the unit gains. In addition, the difference between astronomer and astronaut was explained to an astronomer class. In addition to this, mythological stories and constellations were explained to the students. The Basic Astronomy Achievement Test (TABT) consisting of 25 items and the 20 item Astronomy Attitude Scale (ATO) were used as the data collection tool in the study. The scales were applied as pre-test post-test. It was concluded that the study group had a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores in favor of the post-test. This result shows that students change positively between attitudes towards astronomy success and astronomy after the events. In order to increase the quality of the study, the interview form was applied using the semi-structured interview form consisting of nine items. Interview notes were analyzed by content analysis technique. According to the results of the analysis, the students stated that the applications made it easier to learn that they were more memorable, that they got important information through the activities, reinforced their learning and made it easier to understand. As a result of obtained from the research, it has been concluded that the material and model supported teaching practices have an effect on learning outcomes of The Solar System and Beyond and achivement. It is thought that material and model supported teaching activities can be used in other subjects in science class. Keywords: Astronomy Teaching, Solar System and Beyond, Activity Based Astronomy, Modeled Astronomy Teaching.
