Özet (EN)

The purpose of this research is to define what kind of mistakes and misconceptions are done by 7th grade students on the subject `Line and Angel? and to define their distribution according to Van Hiele geometric thinking level. Geometry is especially difficult to learn while learning mathematics so that it makes vital to make research about mistakes and misconneptions on geometry and to find solutions. It has been taught that to define and analyse misconceptions of the subject ?Line and Angel?, which is basic in 7th grade?s cirriculum, will help other geometric subjects to be learnt correctly. The sample of the research contains 60 students of grade 7 from three different primary schools in Düzce. The identification test of mistake and misconception about the subject `Line and Angel? has been prepared by the researcher. While the identification test was being prepared, it was considered to distribute the questions in equal acquisition and 15 open-ended questions at total, which has been composed of 5 question for each acquisition, have been prepared. Furthermore, the exam of Van Hiele Geometry Thinking Level, which was built up by Usiskin in 1982 and was adapted into Turkish by Baki, was put into practice with students and the students? level of understanding geometry was measured. The data of research has been analysed by using the program SPSS 17.0.While analysing the data, persentage and frequency charts have been used. And also, students who have mistakes and misconceptions for each question have been identified and classified. The distribution of mistakes and misconceptions, which have been identified by the identification test, have been searched according to Van Hiele GeometryThinking Levels. In general, it has been found out that students in level 0 and below have more mistake and misconception when compared with the students in level 1 and 2.
