Application of activities for food and nutrition literacy of 7th grade students

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to determine the opinions of 7th grade students about the activities applied for food and nutrition literacy. The study is a qualitative case study. The sample of the study consisted of 14 students studying in 7th grade of Muhammet Ambar İmam Hatip Secondary School in Cayeli County of Rize Province in the fall semester of 2017-2018 academic year. The data of the study were collected through semi-structured interviews, reflective diaries held by the students and observations conducted by the researcher during the practices. The study lasted for 5 weeks, 4 hours per week. Data obtained from the study were analyzed by using content analysis techniques. In the study, it was determined that the opinions of the students about food and nutrition literacy changed positively during the applications. This result was supported by conceptual interviews with the students and the findings obtained from the researcher observations and reflective diaries. However, it has been found that the practices contribute not only to the development of conceptual knowledge of the students but also to the positive change in their behaviors. Some suggestions have been made depending on the results obtained in the study.
