Speaking, which provides socialization, takes a large space in our daily lives and is the most effective means of communication. Great importance should be attached to speaking education in order to have proper communication and to prevent breakdowns in communication. It should be considered that a child might not continue in education after primary school, so the basic conversational skills in educational institutions should be developed in the most efficient manner.Impromptu speaking skills have been introduced in this study recognizing this fact, Firstly, conversation topics have been arranged according to the level of students?. The curriculum of Turkish language education and the studies done on this subject have been utilized in this study. The determined nearly forty topics were evaluated by specialists under such titles ?more appropriate, appropriate, possibly appropriate, not appropriate?, and the 15 topics which were evaluated as appropriate were used in studying impromptu speaking skills. The school in which the study would be carried out was determined, and the classes and the hours of practice were programmed after getting the required permissions. 15 students in each class were studied speaking. The students were chosen without considering their level of success. The groups of students to speak in the study were determined with the help of the course teacher under the following titles: successful, less successful, and not successful. Voluntary students were given the priority in doing this.In order to prevent the students? making any mental preparation while their friends were speaking, only fifteen students were allowed to speak in each class, in accordance with the number of speech topics. No impromptu speech was done in any classroom on the same topic. The topics were given to students at the moment of speech, and they were told to think for a moment, and then the speeches started. Fifteen students in seven classrooms in total were achieved. After excluding the students who told they would not be able speak, the speeches of ninety-eight students were used in the study. The speaking evaluation criteria of the Turkish language education program were revised and updated in line with the goals and objectives of the same program. Then, the impromptu speech samples were evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively.According to the findings of the study, impromptu speaking skills of the students are either inadequate or somewhat adequate. All the students made mistakes in forming sentences using Turkish grammar rules; they had difficulty in finding the words to convey their ideas; they made repetitions with words or sentences; they could not complete the three-minute time for speech.
