Abstract (EN)

Dictionaries are the basic sources that are used by everyone in language teaching and give the meaning of words in a reliable, detailed and accurate way. In language teaching, they are frequently used by people to learn their mother tongue and foreign languages. Dictionaries, other than the real and metaphorical meanings of words; it contains information about its origin, synonyms, sound, intimate meaning, counter-meaning, genre or syntax. Beginning with the clay tablets used by Babylonia and Assyrians, the dictionary adventure has taken place in life and education in different ways by changing and keeping up with the ages. It has become the resources we have at hand with technology and digitalization. The frequency of usage of dictionaries has also increased due to the necessity of learning foreign languages in the globalizing world. The use of dictionaries is an important requirement in language education in schools and especially in Turkish lessons. The first place of reference for words of unknown meaning in the texts is again dictionaries. Because of this need, various dictionaries have been prepared for primary, secondary and high school students. The dictionaries prepared for the students need to be appropriate to the needs, expectations and levels of the students. This situation necessitates the preparation of dictionaries according to each grade level in Turkish lessons. This is only possible by listing the word assets in the books taught in the curriculum and subtracting the target words. In the study, considering the class level; 'What is in the target vocabulary of 7th grade students, can a class-based dictionary be created, and if so, what method should be applied?' such questions were tried to be answered. The course and work books that 7th grade students studied in the last three years were examined and vocabulary was determined in these books. The words listed using the dictionary creation methods were compared with the vocabulary in the books prepared for 5th and 6th grade students. The vocabulary created in these two classes was extracted from the vocabulary; The words that only 7th grade students should learn were taken into the dictionary. As a result of the study, 4042 vocabulary was revealed. Samples of verbal witnesses were mostly taken from textbooks. If not available in textbooks, TDK Current Turkish Dictionary is used. If there is no proper sampling, literary works, interactive sources or sentences are used. A class-based dictionary with 3462 words per item was created. The remaining 580 vocabulary is also added to the last part of the dictionary as idioms, proverbs, prepositions, conjunctions and abbreviations. As a result, a class based dictionary was prepared rather than generalizing dictionaries such as secondary school dictionary and student dictionary. Preparation of such a dictionary is important to be data-oriented, to be connected with the books that students use, to be easily accessible, convenient, level-appropriate and need-based. The study is expected to determine the target vocabulary of 7th grade students and to give a new perspective to Turkish language teaching from the points of school lexicography and vocabulary teaching. Keywords: 7th Grade, Vocabulary, Dictionary, School Dictionary, Turkish Dictionary.
