The perception of Turkish World in the 7th grade students' mind map

Özet (EN)

The aim of this research is to observe how much does the Turkish world perception of 7th grades students match with real situation.The research has been made in descriptive scanning model. In reseach semi-structured questionnaire has been used as data collection tool. The developed semi-structured questionnaire was applied to 449 7th grade students. 150 students from Ankara, 149 students from Sinop, 150 students from Birecik (the town of Şanlıurfa) has filled in the questionnaire.SPSS 17 statistical software was used in the analyse of collected datas. In the solution of the problems and sub-problematical areas descriptive statistics such as frequency, arithmetic average, standard deviation and t-test, one way varians analyse (ANOVA) was used.According to the results of the research, there are two adventegous position depend on the points. The first is because of sex. The girls are more successful than the boys. The other point is having an atlas. Studies on map and the social sciences laboratuary doesn?t effect the students? Turkish world perception.7th grade students? perception of Turkish world points have meaningful varies such as the city they live in and the amount of the students in a class. The perception point of a student in Ankara is higher than the perception point of a student in Sinop or Şanlıurfa. 20 or less students perception of Turkish world in a class is higher than more twelve students perception of Turkish world in a class.It was cocluded that 7th grade students had gotten the most information about Turkish world by their course books. They get the least information by history books.When we observe number of countries that 7th grade students know definitely, 90 percent of the students know two countries or less. Turkey is the most known country from the seven independent Turkish Republic. The followers are in order Cyprus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan. Kyrgryztan is the lesser-known country. It?s known by seven students with a 1.5 percent of students rate.Key Words: Mind Map, Social Sciences, Turkish World
