Abstract (EN)
This research was conducted to measure the applicability of practices in the teaching of idioms in the 7th grade Turkish course books prepared in accordance with Turkish Course Teaching Programme. In the research, Turkish course book of Pacific Publications which was taught at 7th grade was used in Elementary Education in 2009-2010 academic year. Experimental and control groups were formed from 7B and D classes in Sakarya/Hendek Şehit Mahmutbey Elementary School in order to determine the effectiveness of practices in the teaching of idioms in this book. Teaching practices of idioms in the textbook were exactly applied to the control group whereas teaching practices of idioms developed by the researcher were applied to the experiment group. In the study, first, pre-tests were administered to the experimental and control groups, no significant difference was found between the two groups. After teaching practices of idioms to two groups, the post-tests were applied to two groups and it was investigated whether there was a significant difference in terms of students? idiom learning. At the end of the research, it was found out that teaching practices of idioms applied in the experimental group provided more meaningful learning in terms of idiom learning when compared to the 7th grade Turkish course book.
