The effect of teaching 8th grade algebraic expressions and identities with 7E learning model on the students' academic achievement and permanence of learning

In this study, the effect on the academic achievement of students and the permanence of learning of teaching according to 7E learning model based on the constructivist approach of "Algebraic Expressions and Identities" was investigated, and the students' opinions were also included. The study was carried out with 50 students in 8th grade of a public school under the Ministry of National Education in Kastamonu province in the fall semester of 2018-2019 academic year. The lessons in the experimental and control groups formed from 25 students by random sample selection method, were conducted by the researcher.In the study, while teaching was the lesson plan prepared in accordance with 7E learning model, the control group was taught according to the current curriculum. At the end of the study, ''Algebraic Expressions and Identities Achievement Test'' was applied to the experimental and control groups and ''Semi-Structured interview'' was conducted with the experimental group students. In the analysis of the quantitative data obtained from the study, the findings obtained by using independent samples Mann Whitney U-test were interpreted at 0.05 significance level and content analysis was used in the analysis of qualitative data. According to the results of statistical studies, it was observed that the teaching of "Algebraic Expressions and Identities" according to the 7E learning model made a significant contribution to the academic achievement of the students, the permanence of the learning had a positive effect. In addition, the results of the 7E learning model was increased the motivation of the students, they were more active in the lessons, the lessons were found to be fun and interesting results.
