The investigation of the relationship between anxiety sensitivity and school refusal on the group of students aged 8-14 years

In this study, the relationship between anxiety sensitivity and school refusal on 8-14 year-old students has been examined. Relational research model has been used in the research. Descriptive and predictive relationships between anxiety sensitivity and school refusal have been investigated in the study. Cluster sampling, size sensitive sampling and appropriate sampling methods have been used in the selection of the study group. For this purpose, the sample of the research is composed of 810 students studying in Karatay, Meram, Selçuklu districts of Konya. The School Refusal Assessment Scale-Revised, the Anxiety Sensitivity Index for Children and the Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher have been used as data collection tools in the study. The findings are as follows according to the results of the study. As a result of the analyzes applied to reveal the relationship between school refusal and anxiety sensitivity, positive and meaningful relationships between school refusal and anxiety sensitivity have been found. As a result of applied structural equality model, anxiety sensitivity predicts school refusal positively. In the study, it has been determined that school refusal does not differ significantly by gender, according to gender and mother education status, the common effect variable and gender and father education status. It has been found that there are significant differences in the sub-dimension of interest in out-of-school activities according to age, class, education level of mother and education level of father. It has been found that age and maternal education status do not differ significantly in the sub-dimension of interest in out-of-school activities compared to the age and education status of the father the common effect variable. However, it has been found that there have been significant differences in the other 3 sub-dimensions according to the common effect of age and education status of the father.
