The comparison of the effect to the discovery teaching methods and the traditional teaching methods on the success of the ninth classes physics education

In this study; the question of ?Is the teaching physics with discovery moreeffective on student achievement than traditional physics teaching?? was answered.For the study, the subject, electrical circuits, at 9th grade was selected. In this study,the discovery strategy, which involves question and answer, brainstorming andpuzzle, were used.The population of the study consists of experimental and control groups thatselected randomly from 9th grade classes at Mimar Sinan High School, YenimahalleDistrict, Ankara. The selection of classes for the groups was done randomly. Thedata for the study were collected by; ?Students? Interest in Physics Questionnaire?,and ?Physics Achievement Test?. In data analysis, Arithmetic Mean, StandardDeviation and t Test were used.At the end of the study; a significant difference was found between the effectof teaching with discovery strategy and traditional teaching in terms of studentachievement. The study also showed that teaching with discovery strategy was moreeffective on developing students? interest in physics.Key Words: Physics Teaching, Teaching with Discovery, Traditional Teaching,Electrical Circuits
