Abstract (EN)

Shariʿa court registers, which are primary sources in Ottoman historiography, hold great importance in understanding the social, economic, administrative, and legal structure of Ottoman cities. These registers, kept by qadis, include not only court decisions but also reflect the social order of the time, the daily life of the people, and the relationship between the state and society, making them multifaceted documents. In this study, based on the documents found between pages 231–301 of the Ayıntab Shariʿa Court Register Numbered 98, the court records dated H.1154–1155 / A.D.1741–1742 were transcribed and evaluated. The contents of the documents in the evaluation section were classified under main headings such as criminal cases, family and inheritance disputes, public security issues, administrative appointments, and waqf transactions. In this way, detailed information was obtained about the social order, legal practices, and functioning of the provincial organization in the city of Ayıntab in the mid-18th century. The entries in the sharīʿa court registers provide concrete examples regarding the daily life of the period, the judicial system, and the relations between the state and the public. Keywords: State-Society Relations , Social Order, Waqf Transactions, Public Security, Administrative Appointments
