The effect of artificial aging on microstructure and some mechanical properties applied to a AA 7075 aluminum alloy

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effects of artificial aging heat treatment of AA 7075 alloy at different temperatures and at different times on the alloy, microstructure and some mechanical properties were investigated. In the scope of the study, the test specimens F of AA 7075 alloy were prepared to be 22 (diameter 10 mm, length 10 mm) from aluminum 7075 rod which is now F (no previous heat treatment as produced in the factory). 11 pieces (diameter 10 mm, length 20 mm) were prepared for the same sticking test and 33 samples were used in total. Then it was taken in solution at 480 ° C for 2 hours and cooled rapidly. These samples were then aged at three different temperatures (100 ° C, 125 ° C and 150 ° C) and at different times (48, 72 and 96 hours). Aged alloys were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM + EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), hardness, microhardness and compression test measurements. At the end of the studies, the size of the secondary phase sediments expected to form an aging result in the AA 7075 alloy varied with different aging temperatures and times. After the XRD investigations, MgZn2 sediments are formed as a result of aging processes together with the elements of MgZn2 elements in the structure. It is seen that the highest hardness value in the solution treatment and artificial aging heat treatment applied to 7075 aluminum alloy is obtained in the sample subjected to the artificial aging treatment at 150 ° C for 48 hours after the water treatment for 2 hours at 480 ° C. Resolving and artificial aging also affect the compression strength.
