Özet (EN)

In this thesis, the effect of the structure shaped by EU policies and Brexit developments on Scottish separatism, which is one of the examples of subnationalism which started to rise in the EU after the 2008 Economic Crisis, is examined. In the first part of the thesis, preferred concepts and applied case study methods are mentioned. In the second part, historical, intellectual and theoretical aspects of European integration are discussed. The third chapter examines the national-level disparities that first occurred in Greece and then in the United Kingdom as the economic crisis in the EU in 2010 turned into a political crisis over time. Subsequently, the nationalist separatist movements, which were on the agenda with the referendums of independence in Catalonia, Scotland, Lombardy and Veneto regions in Europe, were mentioned. The fourth chapter focuses on the fact that in 2014 the referendum on independence in Scotland took no votes and on the Brexit referendum in 2016, 62% voted to stay in the EU. Based on these two conditions, Scottish discrimination was evaluated under the influence of Brexit developments within the context of the EU's Single European Act and the Maastricht Treaty's multi-level structure. From the case of Scotland, sub-national separatism has been determined to become a national issue and become an issue within the EU structure. Key Words: Separatism, Scottish Separatism, Brexit, Multilevel Governance
