Search of vitamin D level of Abant Izzet Baysal Medical Faculty patient population who aged between 20 to 40, and relation between low vitamin D level and osteomalasis.

Vitamin D is a steroid hormon which needed for bone and mineral metabolism. Main sources of vitamin D are dietery intake and sun exposure. In this study winter season vitamin D levels of pepole who lives in Bolu is determined. The releation between 25-OHD levels and gender, skin color, diet, body mass index, gender, smoking, alchol intake, muscle and skeleton system semptoms is examined. Total 178 people of which 52 men and 126 women, aged between 20 to 40 with mean age of 28,944±6,004 is included in the study. Women are divided into two categories according to clothing style, 57 (%54,80) of them dressed in western style and 69 of them dressed in Bolu's traditional style which covers body entirely, except face and hands.25-OHD vitamin levels are measured from january to march. Mean 25-OHD level of study population is 20,19±09,27 ng/ml. 25-OHD level is found as 12,6±4,6 ng/ml for the people with vitamin D defficiency and as 27,9±5,9 ng/m for the people with normal 25-OHD level.Prevalence of 25-OHD defficiency is found as 38 (%69,10) for the women with traditional clothing style and 17 (%30,90) for the women with western clothing style. No relation between 25-OHD level and daily diet is found. Osteolomasy symptoms checked with the people having vitamin D defficiency and no correlation is found.Vitamin D defficiency is an important problem during winter, diet with vitamin D fortified foods is suggested.
