Özet (EN)

This research investigates the deep and far-reaching effects of the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq on the country's religious, sectarianand ethnic divisions. The collapse of Saddam Hussein's regime created a power vacuum that shifted the political landscape, empowering the Shia majority while marginalizing the Sunni minority. These changes intensified sectarian tensions, leading to violent conflicts between Shia and Sunni groups, and fueling the rise of insurgent organizations, including Al-Qaeda in Iraq and ISIS. The Kurdish population, meanwhile, capitalized on the instability to solidify their autonomous region in northern Iraq, further complicating the ethnic landscape. The research also addresses the role of external factors, particularly the Iranian-American rivalry, which deepened divisions within Iraqi society by aligning factions along pro-Iranian and antiIranian lines. Additionally, religious and ethnic minorities such as the Yazidis and Christians were severely impacted, facing persecution, displacement, and violence during this period. This study aims to provide a thorough analysis of the invasion's long-term effects on Iraq's internal divisions and its ongoing challenges to stability.
