Teaching-learning process in traditional music education study field: County Kaman of Kırşehir province in Turkey

Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to investigate the basic features of the process of the music teaching and learning maintained through the oral transmission method. In the study, gender, age, educational status and professional qualifications of the participants who attended the process of music education were explored. The features of location where the music teaching takes place, the frequency and stages of the lessons, the objectives of the tutors and students, the methods and techniques of the lessons, the instruments taught in the class, music types, and characteristics of the communication between student and tutors were tried to be discovered in this research. The study was conducted in Kaman, a county of Kırşehir province, in Turkey. `Purposive Deliberate Sampling? and `Chain Snowball Sampling? methods were used in this study. Forty subjects who are eighteen tutors and twenty two students participated in this study. The subjects were interviewed and the process of teaching and learning were observed. The data were analyzed by descriptive and qualitative analysis methods and frequencies were also used for quantitative findings. The results show that the subjects who participated in the process of music learning aim to have a job relating to music fields. The music studies are taken place at houses and the students rehearse at the wedding ceremonies. They also practice in the home or garden when the teachers are absent. It is also found that when the lessons are Turkish Folk Music, the students are taught instruments such as bass drum, wind instrument (zurna), violin and a traditional folk instrument (bağlama) with three double strings.
