Abdülcelîl bin Yûsuf al-Akhisarî's (D. after 1618) commentary of Arabic-Turkish versified dictionary named Şerh-i Seb'atu Ebhur (Examination-criticized text)

Şerh-i Seb'atu Ebhur contains the Arabic-Turkish versified dictionary named Seb'atu Ebhur by Abdülcelîl bin Yûsuf al-Akhisarî and its commentary. Seb'atu Ebhur was written to deal with Arabic animal tags and nicknames. Its commentary, which was completed in 1617, consists of proverbs about animals, zoological, medical and religious information, dream interpretations and various stories. Abdülcelîl bin Yûsuf organized each of these information under sub-headings in his commentary that he wrote in detail. The sources of his commentary are 202 reference works from different fields such as tafsir, hadith, fiqh, lexicon, history, medicine, language and literature. He presented a list of these works classified according to their fields in the preface. Within the scope of this study, general information about the versified dictionary tradition was given and the place of Şerh-i Seb'atu Ebhur in the tradition was tried to be determined. The information obtained from the work about the life, works and scientific personality of the author is presented by examining its content, shape features and commentary method. In the text section, the critical text of the work, which was created through two copies of the work in the Nuruosmaniye and Yahya Tevfik collections, is given. An index and dictionary has been created for the animals in the work and the words related to these animals.
