Abstract (EN)

This study focuses on "asceticism" understanding of Abdullah ibn Mubarak who is one of the early ascetics in terms of the thoughts which he affected and got affected from. In the first chapter, we addressed the life, scientific personality and works of Abdullah ibn Mubarak. Abdullah ibn Mubarak who lived in II. century on hegira went on many science expeditions and attended jihads in border tribes. It is observed that asceticism understanding of Abdullah ibn Mubarak, who continued his scientific activities in places he had been, came into prominence in this period. In the second chapter, Abdullah ibn Mubarak's Kitab al-Zuhd was discussed in terms of being the first asceticism book. Moral field which had not been established scientifically yet in the early periods along with disciplines such as fiqh and dogmas which were formed scientifically showed itself in asceticism works most distinctly in the early periods. In this regard, we endeavored to identify how much Ibn al-Mubarak's Kitab al-Zuhd enables to track the asceticism belief in terms of the subject included and the framework of these subjects in this study. In the third chapter, we tried to put forth the Abdullah ibn Mubarak's asceticism understanding by addressing manners, nafs, Irfan which we can consider as main topics of Sufism within the context of science-deed integrity with reference to information on Abdullah ibn Mubarak in sufi books and tabakat books. In conclusion, we detected that Abdullah ibn Mubarak and Kitabl al-Zuhd have an important place in the establishment of a correct asceticism understanding within the Islamic framework in terms of the role of asceticism understanding in the society's piety.
