Basic concepts of tasawwuf in Abdulvehhab eş-Şa'rânî's work named Tabakâtu'l-Kubrâ

Egyptian scholar Abdülvehhâb al-Şa'rânî is a versatile Sufi who has an important place in the history of Sufism and is also known in our country. Sufism had a very important place in the religious life of Egypt in the 16th century, when he lived. In addition, at that time, the administration of Egypt passed from the Mamluks to the Ottoman Empire. Therefore, Şa'rânî's education and Sufism journey, who lived in a very active political period, were equally intense and productive. This study is based on the work named Tabakâtü'l-Kübrâ, which is among the most important works of Şa'rânî, which describes the scholars and mystics from various countries of the Islamic world that the author came to know about, who lived in a period of approximately 930 years from the beginning of Islam. This work includes the thoughts, life philosophies, religious lifestyles, worship, morals and miracles of scholars and Sufis. Their devotion and faith in Allah are exemplary for all Muslims. Imam-i Şa'rânî has discussed all the people in the book with their most striking features and words. He stated that his purpose in writing this work was to introduce a community immersed in Sufism and to explain their manners in all detail. When the lives of the scholars and Sufis in the book are examined, it can be easily observed that the lifestyle of the Islamic community today is very different. These differences will be touched upon in our thesis. The love these people feel for Allah, the obedience they show, their meticulous compliance with the rules set by Allah, the ways they follow when struggling with their souls, their generosity, their lack of interest in the world, their intense prayers, their sensitivity towards what is haram and halal, and their decency in human relations are important examples for everyone. In the thesis, an attempt was made to compare the examples in the book about the important concepts of Sufism and the lifestyle and approaches in today's society. As a result of the modernization movement brought by our age, the secularization tendency, which is increasingly felt even in religiously sensitive segments of our society, is included, and the differences are intended to be revealed with the examples in the work.
