Anatomic and epidemiological investigation of humerus, radius ulna fractures in 18-64 age patients who applied emergency department

Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to determine the epidemiological aspects and anatomic location of fractures occurring in the humerus, radius, and ulna in the individuals aged 18-64. In the study, the files of patients who applied to the emergency service of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Medical Faculty Health Application and Research Center between 1st of January, 2012 and 1st of January 2018 with the complaint of trauma and who had fractures in humerus, radius and ulna were evaluated on the systems of PACS and Enlil. Data of 252 patients who met the inclusion criteria were evaluated. The patients were divided into two age groups: 18-44 years, 45-64 years. The most common type of trauma was falling in the radius fractures and the humerus fracture was frequently detected as a result of traffic accidents (p <0.01). Radial fractures were more in distal and ulna fractures were mostly seen in proximal (p <0.01). While radius fractures have been mostly found in distal area, ulna fractures have been mostly seen in proximal (p<0,01). The number of the fractures in both of the age and gender groups is high especially on weekdays in total. The extremity fracture in men aged 18-44 are more common on the weekends in comparison with the women (p<0,01). While right extremity fracture is more frequent in men considering both age groups, the women aged 18-44 have mostly experienced left extremity fractures and those aged 45-64 have mostly had left extremity fractures, but there were not significantly. While radius fractures are more common in both of the age groups in men, humerus fractures are more common in both of the age groups in women. The study clearly shows that radius fractures mostly ocur in distal area and non-surgical. It is more possible to see surgical operation in humerus fractures (p<0,01). This study may contribute to the studies that will be done in the formation of emergency protocols since it was presented in a wider perspective that epidemiological and anatomical features of the humerus, radius and ulna fractures in 18-64 age group.
