Abstract (EN)

Objective: Our aim in this study is to examine laboratory results, diagnosis, hospitalization and mortality of oncological patients who were admitted to the emergency department in terms of their demographic characteristics, laboratory results, and additionally, NEWS, MEWS, ECOG scores, and to show how useful they are in determining the clinical course of the patients early. To evaluate the early warning scores in terms of possible intensity in the emergency department and the use of patients to prevent infection risks that may occur during emergency service admissions. Materials and Methods: All admissions of patients aged 65 and over with oncology diagnoses who applied to İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center Adult Emergency Service between 01.01.2019-31.12.2019 were included. Applications were evaluated retrospectively. Statistical evaluation of the obtained data was made with SPSS 26.0. Results: A total of 747 emergency room admissions from 330 patients were included in the study. 131 (40%) of these cases were female and 169 (60%) were male. The average age of all patients was 73 ± 6. The average of ECOG PS in all patients was 3, and the average of patients who died was 3. MEWS mean was 2 in all patients and it was evaluated as 3 in the patients who died. The mean NEWS of all patients was 2, and it was evaluated as 3 in the patients who died. ECOG PS, MEWS and NEWS were found to be significant in terms of life (p <0.0001). The average number of admission to the emergency service was found to be 3.1 ± 2.2 in the group who died, and it was statistically significantly higher than the surviving group (p <0.0001). Again, between the patient group who died and the living patient group, hospitalization was statistically significantly higher (p <0.0001). Conclusion: It is to test the validity of the EWSs required for early diagnosis of oncology patients over 65 years of age who applied to the emergency department, to start treatment faster and to be hospitalized quickly, and to ensure that they take part in the emergency service practice.
