Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted descriptively in order to evaluate the patients' perspective on male nurses. The population of the study consisted of 18900 patients who applied to Hakkari State Hospital emergency service between 22 May and 22 June 2023. 400 patients who agreed to participate in the study and met the study criteria also constituted the sample. The data were collected by the researcher with the questionnaire prepared in accordance with the literatüre. SPSS 25.0 package program was used in the analysis of the data, frequency, percentage distribution and chi-square were used in the evaluation of the data. It was found that 50% of the patients included in the research were male, 88.5% were aged 43 and below, 89.8% of the patients received services from male nurses, 95% of them say that nursing is a profession for both women and men, 71.3% found that the success of nurses in practice is more important than gender, 73.5% of them stated that male nurses can work in every service in a hospital environment and 67.3% stated that male nurses will improve the profession. In addition, patients stated that 3.5% of male nurses should work in the health service as managers, 1.3% as educators, 3.0% as researchers, 6.8% as practitioners and 74.3% in all roles. In the study, a statistically significant relationship was found between the statements about the patients' perspectives on male nurses and some socio-demographic characteristics (p<0.05). It was found that male nurses were widely accepted by the patients, the nursing profession moved away from gender discrimination, and the patients' perspective on male nurses was generally positive.
