Abstract (EN)

To determine the malnutrition levels in patients who were admitted to the emergency service, who were diagnosed with malignancy at any time, but who have not started any nutritional support before, the necessity of starting nutritional support in the emergency department for patients with malnutrition, that the malnutrition of patients with cancer can be detected in emergency services in the early period, It was aimed to evaluate and demonstrate the relationship between nutritional level and body mass index, duration of diagnosis, stage of cancer, whether or not to have received chemotherapy or radiotherapy, and to be operated for malignancy. Hypotheses; better nutrition is associated with higher body mass index, newly diagnosed cancer patients and individuals diagnosed with early stage cancer have better nutritional status; The nutritional status of patients who received chemotherapy and radiotherapy was worse than those who did not; It is that malnutrition is present even in newly diagnosed people. The nutritional status of patients with a diagnosis of malignancy who applied to the emergency department was evaluated with PG-SGA. Data were analyzed by independent sample T-test and chi-square test with the program SPSS for Windows, Version 18.0. Twelve female, 26 male, thirty-eight cancer patients were evaluated in terms of their nutritional status with PG-SGA in this study. According to the global PG-SGA category, 84.2% of the patients were under the risk of malnutrition, while 97.4% were in need of nutritional intervention according to the nutritional triage score. There was no relationship between the cancer stages, tumor surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and nutritional status of the patients. The nutritional triage score is significantly higher in newly diagnosed malignancy patients compared to patients diagnosed more than three months ago. However, there is no significant difference between global PG-SGA evaluation categories. In terms of both global PG-SGA category and nutritional triage score, it was seen that better nutritional status was associated with higher body mass index. It was seen that the nutritional status of the patients could be evaluated after a brief evaluation in the emergency department. In this way, it will be possible for patients to be guided for proper nutrition methods in the early period.
