Abstract (EN)

Teeth may become necrotic due to caries, trauma and dental anomalies and endodontic treatment may be required. Root development is completed 3 years after eruption. If necrosis occurs, root development cannot be completed, roots remain short and thin which avoids performing an ideal endodontic treatment. Regenerative endodontics is a popular alternative in recent years. With this treatment, root development continues, the apex closes and a positive response can be obtained to the vitality tests. Twenty teeth examined between 2015-2019 with necrotic pulps and open apices were included. Radiographic records were evaluated using the Image J program, to determine changes in periapical lesions, increase in root length and width, status of the apices. Record of vitality tests were also evaluated. Total follow-up ranged between 9-49 months. Periapical radiographs showed improvement in periapical lesions in all 20 patients. While an increase in root length was observed in 11 patients, an increase in root dentin width was observed in 15 patients. When the status of the apices were evaluated, apex closure started in 15, and the apex was completely closed in 8 patients. Six patients of the eight representing total apical closure responded positively to the vitality test while positive response was obtained in 2 patients without apical closure. While the highest increase in root length change was 2,984 mm, 8 patients had no difference before and after treatment. The highest increase in root width change was 0,729 mm and no difference was noted in 4 patients.
