The investigation of the relationship between the perceived parental attitudes and the psychological resilience of male prisoners in open prisons

In this study, the relationship between perceived parental attitude and psychological resilience were examined according to the variables such as; age, marital status, occupation, education level, parental unity status, family type, economic status, crime type, punishment period, alcohol-substance abuse status, psychological or psychiatric help, family crime history and exposure to domestic violence. 308 male prisoners in Izmir Foca Open Prison participated in the study voluntarily. Data were collected from the convicts by using Demographic Information Form, Parental Attitudes Scale and Psychological Endurance Scale for Adults. SPSS-22 package program was used for statistical analysis of the data obtained from the study. In line with the general purpose of the study, Pearson Correlation Analysis, T-Test for Independent Groups and ANOVA were used to determine whether there was a significant relationship between sub-dimensions of parental attitudes and psychological resilience. As a result of the analyses, significant differences were found between perceived parental attitude and psychological resilience and marital status, occupation, education level, family type, alcohol or substance abuse and exposure to domestic violence. In addition, the importance of the attitudes of parents on the individual's life and its impaction psychological resilience were emphasized.
