A study on artist psychology of pain and its effect on artworks

Abstract (EN)

Main propositon of this thesis study is oriented toward understanding the ways of reflection of pain on artists' psychology, and thereby on their artworks. Accordingly this research focuses on how pain changes and transforms human psychology and his/her life style, and thefore how these effects on an artist appear on his/her artworks. Doing reseach on this topic focuses on reviewing the literatue, and understanding the importance of it on the theory of art, and inevitably the analyzing related artworks in the meantime. Due to its relationship with individual and social pains, theoretrical basis of the study, which is not rectricted to the theory of art, is established to investigate the relation between the pain and sociology, anthropology, philosophy, medicine, and psychology. While making an effort to understand its significance on the school of thougt and to define the concept of pain, which is the main subject of this research, ensures to be oriented in the field of philosophy; striving to discover and express its effects on an artist as an individual causes to make psychology included as a part of the thesis. When tackling pains that a soul feels, the relationship between spirit, body and the society has been examined, and integrated with the thesis under the topic named "The Fields Related with Traumas". All of these questions, titles, and subtitles have directed this study to the field of psychology, and made the "Part 3. endless paıns of a soul, art, psychology, and paın" emerged, which is deemed the main headline of this research. This research as mentioned above has been completed by reviewing various books, articles, thesis studies, and by analyzing artworks with the usage of visual methods, and by having experience from the art pieces created within the research theme. In the part of main conclusions of the study, the effects of the concept of pain on an artist life and therefore on his/her creation processes and artworks are underscored. The concept of pain is sometimes revealed as an artist's motivation for creation, and sometimes as his/her rescuer, and sometimes as a factor which makes artists fall into the very bottom, and then reborn, transformed, and matured, in contrast.As a result, the significance of this research is to show the importance of the concept of pain on the artists' life both as an indivdial and within the society, and more importantly on their psychologies.
