Determining of quality level of the government pre-schools and private pre-schools

The main aim of this study is to measure quality level of the government primary pre-school and private pre-school education institutions in the centre of Adana. Sample Schools inculde 16 pre-school education institutions. Pre-schools within the government primary schools, autonomous pre-schools , pre-shools within the private schools and private pre-schools and 4 schools for each. This study reveals structural and functional qualities using `?The new version of evaluation scales of pre-shool learning atmosphere (ECERS-2)?? in these observed pre-schools. The evaluation scales of pre-shool learning atmosphere contains these categories: (1) the atmosphere and furniture (2) routine personal care (3) language and implication (4) activities (5) interaction (6) program (7) family and personel. Pre-school education institutions are compared in terms of the categories above. During the study, bi weekly visit for each class is organized by the researcher. In these two visits, the atmosphere in the classes is observed the whole day. All the institutions in this study are almost at the same level although their stuctural differences. According to the points they get,there is no statistical difference between pre-schools within the private schools and pre-schools within the government primary schools. Only the private schools have larger area and more toys and materials than the others have. It can be said that these two types of schools develop communication between teacher-student and also provide good conditions for students. On the other hand, working conditions for the teachers in these schools are almost the same. This study also shows that quality of education in these schools provides students games and activities at a maximum degree. Using these activities and games, the children learn what they have to learn in theinr pre-school time. Key words: Pre-school education, atmosphere of the classes, quality. ECERS-R
