Epilepsy prevalance in adana centrum

Introduction: Epilepsy is an endemic illnessthat can be under control with a suitable treatment. In this study We aimed to state epilepsy prevalence in Adana centrum.Material and Method: Fort his subject as we tok the examples of studies that have been done in our country and also around the world we planned the study in the direction of the rules and suggestions that are needed to be obeyed of International Leauge Against Epilepsy(ILEA) and World Health Organization (WHO) stated neurological illnesses and epilepsy which are going to be studied in epidemiological practises. Three streets have been determined in the center of Adana and will reflect the sociocultural level of whole society (upper,middle and lowborn)by the method of random sample.Our target population that needs to be scanned with used formulas in epidemiological studies have been calculated.(n: 7052 people).The people who had been diagnosed before and had suspect attacks were deepened and further reviews were made.Subject: After the interviews of totally 7052 people (ages between 0 and 100), 52 epilepsy patients were stated. Active epilepsy prevalence were detected 0.7%. Considering the socioeconomic situation, the rate has been found 1.4 % for the group has the worst socioeconomic one; 0.7% fort he middle group and 0.3 % fort he upper one.When comparing the socioeconomic levels of patients to each other ,in the lowest group epilepsy prevalence was in 4.22 (p<0.001) times more than the opper group,when the middle group compared to the upper one the prevalence was 2.62 (p<0.001) times more .If there was line of descents between father and mother epilepsy prevalence 4.59 (p<0.001) times more than compared the ones who didn?t have.The people who weren?t born in Adana ,epilepsy prevalence was 2.29 (p=0.002) times more than who were born in Adana. (Fort he whole symptoms ORs have been given being corrected in accordance with the ages and epilepsy prevalence was 95% more.)Results: After this study the syptoms we derived gave the similar results when the studies were compared in our country and around the world as the socioeconomic level increases the prevalence dicreases. Epilepsy prevalence is much higher than the people who emigrated because of the economical reasons. Fathers and mothers who hav eline of descents have more epilepsy prevalence than the others. In this study we think that the symptoms we have got reflect the central Adana population correctly. By means of the similar studies which will be made about epilepsy prevalence, the frequency in our country will be provided more clearly and developments will be gained about protection and and new treatment methods from epilepsy.Key Words: Adana, epilepsy, prevalence.
