Surnames of the city of Ardahan in terms of onomastics

In this study, an examination was made on the surnames of Ardahan province under onomastics. From the surnames of a total of 127.808 people, 4.304 different surnames were identified and examined in terms of origin, structure and meaning. In the introduction part of the thesis, the purpose, scope, method and previous studies on the field are included. In the first section of the thesis, information about onomastics, branches of onomastics and personal onomastics is given. In the second section of the thesis, the concept of surname, the use of surnames in Turkey, and the methods used to obtain surnames are discussed. In the third section of the thesis, information about the province of Ardahan (geographic structure, history, population) is included. In the fourth section of the thesis, the surnames of Ardahan province were examined. Surnames were examined by classifying them in terms of origin, structure and meaning. In terms of structure, surnames are examined under three headings: simple, derived and compound. In the fifth chapter of the thesis, the dictionary meanings of 4.304 surnames are given in a tabular alphabetical order. The correct spelling of misspelled surnames is also shown in the table. In the last section of the thesis, some findings are given based on the surnames examined. In the conclusion section of the thesis, a general evaluation was made based on the information and findings obtained. Keywords: Onomastics, Antroponymie, Ardahan, Surname
