Abstract (EN)
Tympanometry is known as a sensitive, inexpensive, non-invasive, and simple method used to be a definitive diagnosis of middle ear disorders. Although low frequency probes have been commonly used, high frequency probes are started to be popular in clinical uses due to its sensitivity in diagnosis of diseases related to ossicular . Multi frequency tympanometry provides information particularly about the changes in admittance components (conductance, mass reactance, and stiffness) with respect to variaiton in probe frequency. Frequencies with these types of changes can show discrepancy under pathological and normal conditions. Adenoid hypertrophy can induce repetitive acute otitis media or otitis media with effusion as a result of occlusion in eustachium. Nasal and post-nasal flix, coughing, crust behind and on uvula can be observed together with adenoiditis. As it is known, adenoids generally occur together with tonsillitis. Mouth breathing and nasiller are observed in children. Aim of this study is investigating the effect of adenoid hypertrophy on middle ear resonance frequency. 28 people (56 ears) were included in the study and otoscopic examination, tympanometry, and multi frequency tympanometry were applied to the participants from both control and experimental groups. Different results were found in multifrequency tympanometry assessment according to the probe tones. Consequently, multifrequency tympanometry application can affect the middle ear resonance frequency. Also, it was considered that the multifrequency tympanometry facilitates the diagnosing of the middle ear pathologies and can be useful in routine clinical applications.
